Term: Length of Stay (LOS)

Definition:

The number of days of care counted from the admission date to the separation (discharge) date for patients/residents within a healthcare facility. This could be in a hospital or personal care home (PCH). In some research (Fransoo et al., 2013), this includes the entire hospital episode (e.g.: includes transfers between hospitals).
